There’s a fascinating near-homophone between English and French: deception and déception. Two words that look almost identical yet seem to mean different things: in English deception means trickery; in French déception means disillusionment. And yet, in the world of magicians, both meanings converge perfectly.
When Trickery Leads to Disillusionment
Magic is by nature an art of “deception” (eng): it deceives the senses, builds mirages. But for the aspiring magician, that trickery very often becomes a genuine déception.
The first trick you learn rarely lives up to your dreams. Whether it comes from a children’s magic kit or an over-promising trailer selling the impossible, the actual secret always feels duller than what you imagined.
You discover how the sausage is made… and it’s frustrating. The secret seems ridiculous, almost banal, painfully obvious.
On top of that, the quality of the explanations is often questionable: sloppy production, clumsy pedagogy, videos that look like they were filmed in 2003.
The “deception” (the trick) quickly becomes déception (the letdown).
That’s Why leTrickster Exists
leTrickster exists because I, too, was that jaded spectator, and then that disappointed apprentice. I’ve felt the frustration of buying mediocre explanations, poorly produced tutorials, secrets that weren’t worth what I paid.
The goal is clear:
To give the curious not just secrets, but collectible digital objects, carefully crafted videos, productions designed to be kept.
To bring the seriousness and experience of a team that has worked in TV production, and content creation, without ever falling into the trap of sensationalism.
Because yes, it bears repeating: the secret itself will always disappoint. No mechanism, no sleight of hand can compete with a spectator’s imagination. But between a raw secret and a secret delivered in a worthy setting, the difference is immense.
